The pocket youth retreat centre!

Castlerigg Manor is a Youth Retreat Centre, in Keswick, serving the Diocese of Lancaster. It has been here in the lovely Lake District since 1969

The Youth Service of the Diocese of Lancaster works on behalf of Bishop Michael Campbell in serving the young people of our diocese and those who visit our diocesan retreat centre at Castlerigg Manor.

The Youth Service is based at Castlerigg Manor in Keswick which for over forty years has provided high class residential retreat experiences for young people, served by a team of young people and professional staff. Besides work with school groups, the centre offers a range of open retreats for young people, families and parishes throughout the year, and members of the team also go out to schools and parishes to serve and support the local Church at specific events and on missions. In addition, the Youth Service seeks to co-ordinate young people from across the diocese to participate in the annual diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes and to other national and international events and initiatives such as World Youth Day.

The aims of youth ministry within the diocese are:

- To help the young people of our schools, colleges and parishes to grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as his disciples in the Church.
- To enable the full participation of young people in the life and mission of the local Church.
- To encourage and nurture the growth of the whole person, with prayer and spirituality as the basis for all human development.
- To provide attractive and safe environments in order to develop successful inter-personal relationships which will provide our young people with clear and engaging examples of discipleship, service, ministry and leadership.
